Mangochi Trip

In Term 1 2019 – 2020 the boarding students had a trip exclusively for them. 49 of them travelled to Mangochi. The drive was a deliberate road network excursion. We went via Balaka – Liwonde on our way to Travellers’ Lodge in Mangochi and our return journey was via Monkey Bay – Salima. On our way to Mangochi we had a brief stopover at Kamuzu Barrage in Liwonde where the students learnt about the history of the construction of the barrage and its economic importance to Malawi as a nation. While in Mangochi, the students had a lot of fun swimming in the lake and playing games both in the lake and on the beach. They also went on a boat ride to Bird Island, a sail that lasted close to 1 hour either way a total of about 2 hours sailing. They sailed round the island viewing the mighty eagles found there. They also had the opportunity to swim in the crystal clean water round the island. They also had a mini tour of Mangochi town especially viewing Bakili Muluzi Bridge which is at the tip of Lake Malawi where the lake begins to pass water into Shire River. They had the opportunity to see entrepreneurial activities taking place within the town of Mangochi and along the lake. All in all, the trip was a great success. It is our hope and plan that in the next academic year, we should go even further than this. We are thinking of visiting places like the Nyika Plateau up north or Likoma Island. Soon, communications will be sent to parents about the next similar trip in Term 1 2020 – 2021.

Below are some of the pictures of this excursion plus other pictures of events that took place during term 1 2019 – 2020.
