What is special is special education and Occupation Therapy (OT) all about and how will it help/benefit my child?

  • Special education Is a form of learning provided for exceptional needs learners such as learning disabilities or mental challenges. In special education the teacher will have to come up with an Individualized Educational Program usually known as IEP. IEP is a written statement of the education program designed to meet the child’s individual needs. This is meant for every child under special education.
  • Occupation Therapy: This is use of particular activities as an aid to recuperation from physical and mental challenges.
    • Occupation therapy will help the child to concentrate, pay attention, do activities that will stimulate them to use fine motor skills e.g. pen gripping, reasoning and thinking skills (problem solving), daily living skills, etc
